I’ve been writing and talking about plants and gardens for more than twenty years. What began as an absorbing personal interest grew into a full-time career as an author, lecturer and speaker — and my work now centres on sharing the pleasure, richness and history of gardens with a wider audience.
I’ve written more than forty gardening books and contributed articles to magazines and to the RHS website, as well as acting as a horticultural adviser on major reference works including the RHS A–Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants, the RHS Encyclopedia of Plants and Flowers and the RHS Encyclopedia of Gardening.
Alongside writing, I’ve taught garden design and RHS certificate courses at Warwickshire College, and garden history at the English Gardening School. These days my work mostly focuses on giving talks and demonstrations for gardening clubs, societies and festivals, as well as advising organisations and the media. You can find out more about my talks on the Speaking page.
I continue to enjoy a relationship with Lamport Hall and can arrange bespoke visits for interested groups by request. These comprise a preliminary talk, guided garden tour, time for questions, and light refreshments — a full-day visit may also include lunch and a tour of the house or afternoon at nearby Kelmarsh Hall. We’re always pleased to welcome visitors from overseas.

“One of the best day visits organised for Clifton Garden Club – all thanks to Andrew.”

I also offer garden design advice, planting plans and mentoring for new designers. If you’d like to find out more, please get in touch using the Contact page.
